Foreword Reviews

…a story that uses timely topics, up-to-date story concepts, and creates an integration of the child and the reader to go on a journey together. The story takes us on an adventure that lightens our senses with the words ad beautiful artwork. A story that creates a new experience with magic, dreams and wonderment. To learn compassion from a child’s point of view also allows the parent, grandparent or reader to also explore how they too can become more compassionate. What a wonderful engagement of souls.

Gerry Haller’s gentle tale is inspired by stories she told to her grandson…Adults will appreciate that the book celebrates and rewards good behavior. This relaxing journey through a land of treats is a pleasant low-key bedtime story for young children.

The full-page illustrations by Y M Cho are colorful and fun. Children will love looking at the pages. My favorite things were the lessons the story cleverly taught. Friendship, politeness, punctuality, and exemplary behavior are all valuable lessons for children to learn.

The message is clear: life is full of sweet offerings, but friendship and kindness are more important than sweet treats. One has to always be courteous. Beautifully told and presented.

Readers will be asking for seconds (of reading the book again that is) after they finish this charming story and will be reminded that good things come to those who are respectful and considerate.

Review of Will's Adventure to the Candy Mountain

by Christell Lindeque | 10 Aug 2023, 07:25

Dr. Gerry Haller has written a children’s book titled Will’s Adventure to the Candy Mountain. After hearing about Candy Mountain from his grandmother, a young boy named Will dreams that he is on a train headed to the town of Candy Ville. Read this book to tag along on Will’s journey to find new friends and exciting adventures.

Both the story and the beautiful illustrations in this book will inspire your child’s creativity. A child’s attention would be held by the vivid colours and attention to detail in the illustrations. They looked like they had been coloured with pencils, and they complemented the story beautifully.

Will's Adventure to the Candy Mountain

Dr. Gerry Heller has written a story which takes children on an imaginary journey to a magical place where the main ingredients are happiness, joy and sugar! With fanciful illustration by artist YM Cho, the tale of a young boy, Will, drifting off to sleep while being told a bedtime story about a place where candy, ice cream, cookies and soda are in such abundance, that it actually forms a mountain, along with a village, comes to dream-life in Will’s mind.

As Will falls asleep, he is taken away on an imaginary train in his dream; past the local surroundings, then up to the mountains. On board he meets another boy, Quinn, as they develop a friendship which allows to two boys to disembark and explore this fanciful land of lollypop trees, root beer lakes, all types of candy formations. Climbing to the top of the mountain Will and Quinn see snow, but when the get up close they realize its ice cream! Then stopping into a huge bakery, they each get some cookies to put into their basket. They have so many fun experiences up on Candy Mountain they almost lose track of time, and run downhill to catch the train to go home; otherwise risk being stuck on the mountain overnight. Jumping on board, Will falls asleep with the motion of the train, and awakes under his covers in his bed at home. Excited, he jumps out of bed to tell his mother about his dream – or was it a dream? After all, there’s a big bucket of candy next to him in bed.
